Since we're in the topic of cars and such these few posts, i'd like to dedicate one to all drivers out there.
There is no more courteous drivers, they are all dead and extinct much like Celine Dion's singing career. The roads in Singapore now is a cacophony of vulgarities and incessant honking. Taxi drivers are out to kill everyone else that shares their road and bus drivers have to resort to bullying to force their way into your lane.
I have noticed that every trip i make these days entitles me to 3 honks, 5 if i'm particularly stoned. I do not picture myself as a particularly bad driver, i don't floss my teeth at red lights and i dun swerve into the lanes of others. But it just seems that the slightest mistake you make will get you honked at.
This afternoon, i drove out for lunch and the most irritating thing happened. I was the first car at the red light and a taxi pulled up behind me. Taxi drivers, as you guys already know, are the most unforgiving bastards on the road now they make their living on the road and everyone else on the road is competition. This means when you agree to pick your mom up at her place, you already have a death warrant on your head, and every taxi you meet on the road is out for blood. But they do so subtly by swerving into your lane making you run into that big tree at the side of the road or they stop suddenly in front of you making you swerve into that same tree.
So anyway, i was minding my own business at the red light waiting for it to change before driving off, when one nano-second after the lights turned green i got honked at!!!
What the Fuck! The lights barely just turned green, i didn't even have the time to react before getting honked at. This guy must have been on the roads so much that he has developed a telepathic link with the traffic lights, cos that's the only way he could have honked so quick.
What's the point of honking anyways? Will the 1 second delay in moving off greatly impact their lives? This is not even the first time this has happened, i have already made a mental note to start moving off once the perpendicular lights turn red if i see a taxi pulling up behind me. I don't even care if that triggers the red light camera cos the cops would probably understand the circumstances.
Play nice guys, treat others like how you would like to be treated. Let's not behave like we're driving a taxi.
